Chat or a card? How long work runs
Chat and voice turns are short, about five minutes. Longer work goes on a card and runs for up to 45 minutes at a time.
Your Right Hand can answer you in two ways, and they have different time limits.
Chat and voice: about five minutes a turn
A chat or voice turn is a quick back-and-forth. One turn can run for about five minutes. That is plenty for questions, lookups, drafting an email or filing a card, and it keeps the conversation moving.
If you ask for something bigger than that, your Right Hand should put it on a card instead of trying to finish it in the chat.
A card: up to 45 minutes a run
A card is a task on your TaskQ board. An agent picks it up and works it separately from your conversation, with a much longer limit: up to 45 minutes per run, and many more steps than a chat turn.
If a card still needs more time, it is not marked failed. It pauses, goes back in the queue and carries on from where it stopped.
Which should I use?
- Chat or voice: questions, quick lookups, short drafts, deciding what to do next.
- A card: anything with many steps, such as updating a batch of emails, researching and writing a report, or working through a long list.
You don't have to choose carefully. Just ask your Right Hand for the work. Say "put this on a card" if you want to be sure.
Where do cards come from?
When your Right Hand files a card from a conversation, it goes to Queued so it starts straight away. See The task board for what each status means.
When a card finishes
You can follow progress in the card's activity feed. If you have phone notifications on, you get a push when it finishes.
