Uploading to your brain
What the brain is for, which files it takes, and the size limits.
Your brain is for the things you want your agent to know and use: notes, documents, meeting write-ups and working files. It is a knowledge base, not a storage bin. Anything big and heavy belongs in Google Drive instead (see Large files and media).
What to put in it
- Notes and plain-text writing (markdown, text, CSV, JSON, HTML)
- Documents you want searched and quoted back (PDFs, Word, Excel)
- Short context files, such as a one-page summary per client or project
Size limits
- Text and notes (markdown, txt, csv, json, html and similar): up to 1.5 MB per file.
- Other file types (PDF, photos, Office files, video): up to 6 MB per file.
- Images attached to a chat message: up to 5 MB each, and up to 4 images per message. This is the limit you hit when you drop a big photo into a conversation.
- Documents attached to a chat message: PDF up to 32 MB, Word and Excel up to 15 MB, CSV, markdown and text up to 5 MB, and 40 MB in total per message.
Files over the limit are skipped, and the app tells you which one and why.
If a file is over the limit
Don't shrink it until it's useless. Keep the original in Google Drive and leave a short note in your brain that points to it. The steps are in Large files and media.
