Sharing a Drive folder with your agent

How to give your agent access to a Drive folder, and what it can read.

Once Google Drive is connected, your agent can only see what your Google account can see. Putting the right files in the right place is the whole setup.

Set it up

  1. Connect Google Drive in the app. See Connect an account.
  2. Put the files you want your agent to use in a folder in your own Drive, or in a shared drive you're a member of.
  3. If the folder belongs to someone else, ask them to share it with the Google account you connected. Viewer access is enough to read; use Editor only if you want your agent to add files there.
  4. Add a short note to your brain with the folder name and link, as described in Large files and media.

What your agent can do in Drive

  • Search and list files and folders
  • Read Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and plain-text files
  • Upload a new file to a folder

Good to know

  • Long documents are read in sections, so very long files may need a follow-up question to get to the later parts.
  • Other file types, including PDFs, Office files and photos, can't be read through Drive yet. Your agent can still find them and tell you where they are.
  • Your agent can't see anything you haven't shared with the connected account. If it says it can't find a file, check the sharing first.
